It Takes A Team

Teamwork. mentor. Working together. Complete Athlete Mentorship team

Complete Athlete Mentorship is built on the belief that developing exceptional athletes requires more than a single perspective.

While every athlete’s journey begins with the program developed by our founder, Duncan Milroy, our vision extends far beyond a single mentor.

Under Duncan’s leadership, our team will bring together experienced coaches, mentors, educators, and industry professionals who share a common commitment to developing confident, resilient, and well-rounded athletes. United by the Complete Athlete Framework, every mentor will be dedicated to providing consistent guidance, meaningful relationships, and lasting impact for the athletes and families we serve.

Duncan Milroy, Founder & Mentor

Few people have experienced the elite athlete journey from every perspective. As an elite athlete, coach, and parent of elite athletes, Duncan Milroy brings a unique depth of experience, helping athletes and their families pursue excellence with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Duncan played a number of sports at an elite level. His two passions were Hockey and Badminton. At the age of 14, he was drafted in the first round of the WHL Draft by the Swift Current Broncos. At 15, he had won five national badminton championships. By the time he was 16, it became clear he had to choose between the two sports he was passionate about.

He chose the hockey path and went on to play 264 games in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos and Kootenay Ice (now the Wenatchee Wild). During his time in the WHL, he won the Memorial Cup in 2002 with the Kootenay Ice and was named the Playoff MVP of those playoffs.

After Junior hockey, Duncan turned pro and, in 2001, joined the Montreal Canadiens organization, drafted 37th overall. This took him on a hockey journey throughout North America, with stops in Montreal, Minnesota, Houston, and Hamilton - including a 2008 Calder Cup Championship.

Following his NHL career, he took his talents overseas and finished his career playing in Europe.

Throughout his hockey career, Duncan also earned the honour of representing his country, playing for Canada at the U18 Ivan Hlinka Championships, the Deutschland Cup, and the historic Spengler Cup.

Now retired from playing hockey, Duncan is giving back to the game by coaching and teaching athletes at all levels the game he loved the most. He is currently coaching Elite hockey players at one of the country’s premier Academy schools.

Jay Henderson, Mentor

Jay Henderson knows firsthand that there is no single path to success. Growing up in Sherwood Park without a family background in competitive sports, he didn’t begin playing hockey until age nine. With the support of his family and a passion for the game, he worked his way to the WHL at 16 with the Red Deer Rebels before joining the Edmonton Ice.

Jay represented Team Alberta at the 1994 Canada Winter Games and, in 1997, was drafted by the Boston Bruins, going on to play in the NHL. His career also included three Calder Cup championships in the AHL and five professional seasons in Germany, Austria, and England.

After retiring from professional hockey, Jay coached hockey with NAIT and the Kootenay Ice before transitioning into the business world. After spending some time in the insurance industry, his passion for coaching led him back to a coaching role at Okanagan Hockey Academy, where he currently coaches a U-17 team.

As a mentor, he brings his experience as a player, coach, business professional, and father of two high-level teenage athletes to help young athletes reach their potential.

Jay’s mentoring style is approachable, encouraging, and relationship-focused. He believes athletes perform best when they feel supported, challenged, and accountable. Rather than relying on a hard-nosed approach, Jay helps athletes build confidence, resilience, and the mindset needed to succeed in both sport and life.
